Jason Meeker for Austin City Council Place One

Be Proud.

May 17, 2008 – 10:33 am

Friends,

There’s just no way that I can adequately express my gratitude to all the people who supported this campaign with their energy, encouragement, donations and votes. I am forever endebted to so many people, and I will thank them all personally.

Some thoughts…

This was a tough race and we all worked our hearts out. Yet, I am very proud of what we achieved, and I hope you are too.

We made a difference.

Even though we came up short in votes, we succeeded in influencing and driving public debate about some of the most important issues facing our city. I am optimistic that the concerns the incumbent heard from citizens throughout this campaign will help him be a better council member.

Along those lines, I ask my supporters to help Laura Morrison win.

I want to add something else that deeply troubles me: the number of people who didn’t vote. Nearly 92 percent of registered voters DID NOT vote. Only 3.6 percent voted in early voting, and only 4.7 percent voted on Election Day.

We can’t continue having elections without the electors.

I also want to thank Allen Demling for running a great campaign and having a tremendous amount of class.

So what’s next? Will I run again? I’ll discuss my political plans at the appropriate time.

For now, I must get back to work. (Need a copywriter or any PR?) And I am already enjoying spending time with my family.

Thank you for a great campaign,

Jason
